The world has suddenly become so saturated with fear, hopelessness and depression. Simply listening to a news bulletin can leave one feeling depressed, fearful and hopeless. Not to mention all the matters of life that we must deal with.
If it’s not Boko Haram in Nigeria, it’s the Ebola virus in west Africa, or Isis on a killing spree in the name of god, whoever that god is. Not to mention all the plane crushes, rumours of wars and collapsing economies. Where does this leave me as a child of God? Yes all these things must happen before the end comes but what are my chances for survival? Why’s God allowing it all? The list goes on.
Where will we find answers? In His Word. Scripture teaches us God always causes us to triumph. I love this verse in Revelation 12 which tells us that we will overcome the enemy by the blood of the lamb and the utterance of our testimony. It is one of the most comforting verses in the Bible. Our adversary is well aware of this fact, and he knows that there’s nothing he can do about the blood of the lamb which is the basis of our victory. He can however do something about our testimony. You see the Blood and our testimony work together to make our victory certain. Through His blood, Jesus redeemed and purchased people for God from the power of sin and death. Satan’s weapons for destruction. How remarkable!
The Blood of Jesus lays down the groundwork for our victory and by our testifying to that fact, we catapult ourselves into that victory. Praise God! Jesus died on the cross more than 2000 years ago and His blood cleansed us from all sin. So we know for a fact that the groundwork has been laid and it’ll stand forever. Satan can do absolutely nothing to change that and he knows it very well.
Simply because he can’t do anything about the Blood doesn’t mean he’ll accept defeat lying down. There is something he can do to stop us from being victorious. If he can only stop us from testifying of the goodness of the Lord he’s got us. Understand this; when we open our mouths to speak we testify, either to the glory of God or to the glory of Satan (for lack of a better expression). For this reason we must be very careful with our words. Our words are the key that unlocks an avenue for God or the devil to work here on earth.
We’ve already established that the groundwork for our victory has been laid. Testifying to that fact and more makes even more victorious. What does testify mean? It is simply giving evidence or proof that something is the case. Jesus said the words you say can either acquit you or condemn you. In other words your testimony can either justify or condemn you. Our judicial systems copied that principle here.
Let us make this practical, the Bible teaches us that God is good all the time in all things. My testimony then has to be, “God is good in my life all the time and in all things about me. This shows I agree that He is good and to show my agreement I speak it out. That activates God’s power and He shows Himself good in my life and in everything about me.
Satan knows this and he tries to use every trick he’s got to make it work in his favour. Unfortunately it can. He tries by all means to frustrate and instill fear in us just so we can voice those fears and frustrations, which is simply testifying of his ability to harm us. We’ve read and heard about Boko Haram in Nigeria. That can make someone afraid of traveling to Nigeria for fear of being killed by the insurgents. “I will never go to Nigeria because who knows what Boko Haram will do while I’m there?” Satan will capitalize on that, the moment you find yourself in that country, surely no one knows what card Boko Haram will play and it’ll get you. But if you’re proclaim this, a thousand shall fall at my side, ten thousand at my right but it’ll not come near me. No matter what the devil plots, God will see to it that it’ll not come near you. You’ll hear about it, you might even witness it happening, but that’s all, you’ll witness it and never experience it.
I’m inspired by Enoch the patriarch. The Bible tells us that God transferred him into heaven so that he did not have even a glimpse of death. Don’t you just love that? I know I do.
Before his translation, his testimony was that he pleased and was satisfactory to God during his life. Imagine living life with such confidence. I believe Enoch went about all his business with this consciousness that, “I please God, He’s satisfied with me”, not only was he aware if this, he also testified of the same. Nothing is more dangerous to the devil than a person who’s conscious of the fact that God is pleased with them and goes around telling people about it; testifying.
Our main problem as God’s children is the identity crisis. But when you know who you are, the devil can not handle you. He’s no longer able to draw you into the infamous “I’m not good enough” mantra. The best way to disarm the devil is by discovering your true identity in Christ. When you know who you are, you’ll always keep Satan in his place under your feet.
So with the devil under my feet, can I know that I’m pleasing and satisfactory to God? Is it even possible in this generation? To know without doubt that God takes pleasure in me? That He approves of my actions? Can I surely live my life with this knowledge?
The answer is YES! How? By faith. Simple isn’t it? Let’s explore it. Scripture tells us that without faith it is impossible to please God. That’s all it takes! Our faith in God’s word and our testimony seals the deal. Think about it this way, Hebrews 11:3 says God created everything, put them all together and equipped them in their intended purposes by His word. This includes you and me. God sustains our lives by His word, that is our testimony. Faith is the response of the human spirit to the word of God. When the word says you have overcome the world and the Greater One lives in you. You respond by testifying that He indeed lives inside you and you live life fearlessly like one who has overcome. That’s what pleases God, our acting on His word and declaring it in agreement.
Doing His word, acting it out in faith is all it takes to know beyond doubt that He’s pleased. In prayer He gives us specific instructions. We just act on those too. That’s what pleases the Father.
When we declare His word over our lives, we’re not trying to make what we’re saying come to pass, we are speaking forth what is already there in the realm of the spirit, bringing it into the physical realm. That’s the power of a testimony! It does not wait for something to manifest before testifying. It brings forth into manifestation what you speak. That’s what Satan wants to manipulate, our power to affect the physical realm.
I want to leave you with this, when Satan comes against you he’s after your testimony. Your testimony frustrates His plan. All these disasters that are wrecking havoc on the world now are satan’s way to instill fear in us so that we can speak out of fear and open the door for him to cause more atrocities.
However, we have awakened. He can try all tricks we stay cheerful because our Master overcame him and so have we!
