The Personality of the Word

One of my favourite books in the bible is the book of John. I’m moved by the message that He communicates to us in verse 1. For me it communicates that the Word of God is a person. But what is the personality of the word?

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1

It is that last statement that got me running around with excitement a few weeks ago while studying. “…and the Word was God.” It did not become God, neither is it going to become God. It was God. It’s still the same thing if we say God is the Word. Therefore, we can boldly say the Word that was God then is still God today! How wonderful is this?

That the Word is God means the Word is a person. Scriptures teach us that when God created us, He created us in His own image. God is a spirit, so if He created us in His image it means that we also are spirit beings. The real person is a spirit (that lives in a physical body). Hence, if the Word is God, who is a person, the Word is a person.

As a person, the Word of God has a character, attitude, mind-set, feelings, emotions. I like to call this the personality of the Word. It is this unique personality that Jesus had. What was He like?

He was a victor, full of grace and truth, and He grew in favour with God and men.

He was full of wisdom, knew where to be and when to be there. Not only that, He knew who to see for what and exactly what to say to get whatever He wanted.

He was no victim of circumstances, He reigned over all circumstances as the King that He was.

He was full of love and compassion for all people, never despised anyone even when it was right to do so. That is the personality of the Word.

God’s vision is for that same personality to be revealed in and through us. “We have borne the image of the man of dust, now let us bear the image of the man of heaven” (1 Cor 15:49). Jesus is the man of heaven that the bible talks about here. We are to bear the same image that He had, our personalities have to match His personality. Not only the one He had when He was here but His present day personality! Scripture says, “… as He is, so are we in this world.” Bearing the image of the man of heaven isn’t something we have to hope for until we reach heaven. We are like Him here and now already, how much of His personality is revealed in us depends on the revelation of God’s Word we have.

When we give ourselves to the Word, in prayer and meditation, through the ministry of the Holy Ghost more revelation is given to us and His personality becomes more and more evident in us. In high school I and my best friend ended up using the same handwriting. Simply because we spent much time together. When we spend time in fellowship with the person of the Word, more and more of His personality becomes our personality also. In no time we will be moving with the same wisdom, speed, accuracy and ability that Jesus had.

Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. 1 Tim 4:15

King David, the man after God’s heart knew that for him not to sin against God he needed God’s word inside him. He knew that the Word had the ability to govern his behaviour. It is still able to do the same for us. The need for us to meditate on the Word daily can never be overemphasized.

The Word has the ability to create for us an environment for growth and prosperity. The Bible says in the city of Ephesus the Word grew mightily and prevailed. Those who worked against it couldn’t stop it, the apostles didn’t do much to spread it either. All they had to do was preach and the Word grew and prevailed. That’s our portion! As the personality of the Word grows in us, growth progress and prosperity will follow us wherever and whenever.

It is so important for the word to dwell in us richly because it is able to build us up and give us our inheritance in Christ. Platforms like Rutiziro are beneficial aids to your study and meditation. We are constantly searching the scriptures daily to deliver to you the authentic message of Christ, because through your success and excellence in all things, we receive a good report from God.

Join us for the Think On These Things challenge starting June 1st. We will be sharing thoughts/affirmations from the Word for the whole month of June. As we meditate on these Word inspired thoughts and affirmations, our personalities will be transformed to the same image, the image of the personality of the Word.

See you next week, stay blessed!
