Show and make obvious that you are from Christ

show and make obvious

I stumbled upon my old journal the other day while cleaning my room. Lessons from young me  always inspire me so I read the journal. I was surprised to find that the message I’m preaching today is what’s in that journal, from 2010! The message of excellence and how to show and make obvious that we are sent from Christ.

I had no idea back then that I would be here now. But now that I am looking back, I realise that God was preparing me for now. He was impressing these truths upon my heart then, preparing me for this moment now, with you here; reading this. I’ve been told that I “have an amazing way with words.” The absolute truth is these aren’t my words at all, it is all Christ expressing Himself through me.

As I was thinking about all this and what it means, Paul’s letter to the Christians at Corinth came to mind. He told them, “You show and make obvious that you are a letter from Christ delivered by us, not written with ink but with [the] Spirit of [the] living God , not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts. 2 Corinthians 3:3 (AMP). That is amazing, absolutely remarkable!

The Spirit of God speaking through Paul reminds the Corinthian church and us today to show and make obvious that we are letters from Christ. I read a great blog post by Marie Wikle of Spreading Joy last week on writing letters. It brought back wonderful memories to my mind that come from writing letters.

We are letters written by Christ, we can only communicate what He has written. Click To Tweet

One lovely thing about letters is they only communicate to the recipient what the writer wrote. I have never heard of a letter that altered itself on it’s way to the recipient. If you write I love you on a piece of paper, that’s what everyone who reads it will see. Nothing more, nothing less. I really love that part about letters. Now when scripture says we are letters written by Christ, it means we can only communicate what He has written.

Our case may seem to be more complicated than that of the piece of paper. Before Christ wrote these amazing things about us, something was written on the piece of paper that is us. Something that’s contrary to what’s written now. “You’re not good enough.” You don’t have the right qualifications.” “This is not really for people like you. You don’t come from the right family.” Etc.

This is not all true for any Christian because we are new creatures. Before Christ you may have been all those things but that person died and was buried! When you came to Christ you did not continue your life from where you left off. You started a completely new life, on a fresh page.

One that never existed before.

One that has no past.

One that has no history of past mistakes to talk about.

So no one can tell you you’re not from the right family, you were born into the family of God. Can you tell me one thing that’s wrong about that family? I thought so, no one can! So what must you do?

Search the scriptures, study and meditate on the Word. This will show you the real you. It will uncover the lies about you that the enemy tries to discourage you with. Do not entertain any thought or voice that tells you that you can not display the excellency of Christ in your life. That’s the only reason you are here! To show and make obvious the virtues and perfections of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvellous light.

The church is here to show and make obvious the virtues and perfections of God. Click To Tweet

One of the desires that God has etched onto my heart is to be recognised by Him as a man He can rely on to do His work well. I couldn’t have chosen this on my own. I know this very well.

You also have desires in your heart for the Kingdom of God. You have amazing ideas for advancing the kingdom and financing the work of the gospel around the world. You have creative ideas about how salvation can reach the unreached. Only you can execute those ideas. Do not think for a second that you are too low or unqualified. You are the right person!

Be that man or woman sent from God that God wants you to be. Speaking of John the Baptist, the bible says He was a man sent from God. Guess what? That’s God’s testimony for you too. You can put your name where it says John there.

There came a man commissioned and sent from God, whose name was John. This man came as a witness, to testify about the Light, so that all might believe [in Christ, the Light] through him.

John 1:6-7(AMP)

God used this scripture last week to communicate His purpose for my life in a much clearer way. I am simply here to testify about Christ that everyone I come into contact with may believe in Christ. As a man sent from God, I can only give and communicate what He sent me with. That is what you also are in the world to do!

You’re a man/woman sent from God! Be boldly and loudly that. Show and make obvious your God-given identity.
