Using our creative abilities for the Gospel

Is it just me or the number of creatives has increased over the past few years? Or maybe they were always here but I never took notice? Whatever the case is, I’m really happy and excited about it.

In the wilderness a report was brought to Moses about two men who wouldn’t prophesying. Moses’ response was simply amazing. I wish all the Lord’s people were prophets and that the Lord would put His Spirit upon them all!” Numbers 11:29(AMP). I am not Moses by a very long shot but my wish is that all of God’s people were creatives.

Of course legally we are all creatives, we were created after His image so in all of us is His creative ability. By creatives here I mean those people who have  jobs that involve lots of creative work mainly. They are the coolest people! We have to agree, the world would be a really dull place without these cool people.

The media industry is one that’s never going to become obsolete because creative people keep coming up with new ways of getting our attention. New shows are premiered almost every day. New novels, books and stories are written and published everyday. Photos, memes, stunning graphics, you name it, are produced everyday. And we are always there to readily consume these.

We enjoy them; we hate them. Some make our days; others downright irritate us. But in all of this one thing remains true; they shape our perceptions.

We are the way we are today because some creative somewhere thought of writing a story that we read and so loved it become a part of us. We behave the way we do, sometimes, because our favourite TV star behaves like that and we want to be like them. Sometimes I like to play dress up, just so I can be like Harvey Specter from suits. I know one day his dress-style will be an everyday thing for me lol. One day is one day.

All this to say that the work of creative people has the power to produce tangible results. When a creative mind goes to work, opinions are influenced, mind-sets are altered and eventually lives are transformed.

Jacob inspired me to write this post. I believe he was also a creative of sorts. He literally created for himself a handsome severance package when he was about to part ways with Laban. The ingenuity with which he did this is impressive.

Then Jacob took some fresh branches from poplar, almond, and plane trees and peeled off strips of bark, making white streaks on them. Then he placed these peeled branches in the watering troughs where the flocks came to drink, for that was where they mated. And when they mated in front of the white-streaked branches, they gave birth to young that were streaked, speckled, and spotted.

Genesis 30:37-39 (NLT)

By simply placing the white-streaked branches in front of the animals Jacob had control over what they produced. That’s remarkable!

We can take a page from Jacob’s book and implement his strategy. With what white branches? You might ask. Jesus Christ and the message of His gospel!

Scripture teaches us in 2 Corinthians 3:18 that we are transformed into the image of Christ from glory to glory as we continue to gaze into the mirror of His Word. I believe that provision also stands for people who aren’t saved yet. If they gaze into the mirror of the gospel they will be transformed also. All they need is someone to hold up the mirror for them. That’s where the creative comes in.

Let us create movies, talk shows, poems, write novels and plays, start blogs anything you can think of that promotes Jesus. Then we hold it up for the world to see Him. We are already doing it, but let’s do even more of that. Let us create high quality work that the world will have no other option but to take notice of the One who took all of the world’s sin. The Son of righteousness who died and rose!

I truly believe that there is absolutely no reason for Christians to attack Hollywood for producing works of art that erroneously portray God’s identity. Or Disney for promoting gay. What and/or who is stopping us from producing our own works of art that preach the authentic message of Christ? Hollywood has it’s agenda and they’re doing well to achieve their goals. We have our own agenda of world evangelisation. What are we doing about it?

We have the talent. We have the ability. We have the resources. And the highest authority in the world has given us the greenlight to Go ye therefore into all the world.

Why then are we still complaining and whining about the world’s efforts when we can surpass them?

  1. I learnt something today, I never thought Jacob as a creative 😂😂😂😂. Anyway we do need to put out quality movies or whatever it is. There is this thinking that Christians do not produce quality movies, series. What we put out here has to be excellent.
